Dog Parades: Mardi Gras and More
According to a 2012 report by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), nearly 70 million dogs live with us in our homes as pets. People love their dogs, and increasingly those dogs are parts of our families – in 2011, 63.2% of pet owners said just that, according to the AVMA . It’s hardly surprising then that parades featuring our beloved four-legged, furry friends are becoming more popular across the USA. Here’s a look at a handful – or, paw-ful.
Not parades, per se, but rather scavenger hunts with your dogs can be found on the Eastern Seaboard during cooler months with the Thrill of the Hunt. The scavenger hunt creators saw a niche and created the dog-friendly hunts during cooler weather months in which the dogs and their people walk around a designated area, solving clues and challenges to collect dog treats and toys. Upcoming hunts are in Winchester, Va. in May, and Annapolis, Pittsburgh, Alexandria, Va., and Latrobe and New Hope, Penn. in October.
